Snuggling up to listen to “Cozy Tape$ Vol. 2: Too Cozy”

On August 25, 2017 the second studio album,  “Cozy Tapes Vol. 2: Too Cozy” by rap group A$AP Mob was released. This album was the second part to the group’s project from last year “Cozy Tapes Vol. 1: Friends.” Last year’s project had great success and set the standards high for a Cozy Tapes album. The album consists of the A$AP Mob and many features from from Big Sean, Playboi Carti, Pro Era, Quavo, Lil Uzi Vert, Lil Yachty, Chief Keef, Gucci Mane, Schoolboy Q, Frank Ocean, Jaden Smith, Smoky MarGielaa and Flatbush Zombies. It was preceded by two singles, “RAF” featuring ASAP Rocky, Playboi Carti, Quavo, Lil Uzi Vert and Frank Ocean, and “Feels So Good” featuring A$AP Rocky, ASAP Ferg, ASAP Nast, ASAP Twelvyy and ASAP Ant.

This newest project took on the more modern vibe of music siding towards more developed production and quicker verses. The outcome of the new take of rap from A$AP Mob was astounding. Songs such as “Blowin’ Minds (Skateboard) [ feat. A$AP Rocky, A$AP Nast, A$AP Ant, Chief Keef, and Playboi Carti” showcase the unique production featuring a melodic beat with sounds of flute in the background. “Blowin’ Minds” has a catchy chorus and the song itself provides a feel good sound with above average verses from all artists on the song. “Byf (feat. A$AP Rocky, A$AP Ant and Smooky MarGielaa)” is another song with complex production and a more melodic tone and could be seen as more of a love song on the album.

Although “Cozy Tapes Vol. 2: Too Cozy” has put a lot more effort into songs where the production could be seen as the highlight, it does not mean that the project doesn’t contain the high rap level such as the A$AP Mob has showcased in the past. “Get the Bag (feat. A$AP Rocky, A$AP Ferg, A$AP Ant, A$AP TyY, Playboi Carti, and Smooky MarGielaa) is a song with a more sinister beat along with excellent verses from all on the track. In this song there is an exceptional verse from A$AP Rocky, in my opinion one of the best verse of the whole album. Another rap oriented song, “Frat Rules (feat. A$AP Rocky, Playboi Carti, and Big Sean)” is a track that’s a back and forth between Rocky and Sean behind an anthem like beat rapping about on of the most common topics of rap: women. This song has been seen as one of the best even though only having a three man ensemble.

All in all, the album is great and could go either way for being better than “Cozy Tapes Vol. 1: Friends”. The only reason it can’t be undoubtedly better than Vol. 1 is due to the success Vol. 1 had and how good that album was.  This album is definitely one for the books for 2017 and only shows more promise for what A$AP Mob can do with their music.
