Homecoming pep rally moved to second period

According to Principal Laurel Fretz, the Homecoming pep rally has officially been moved to second period on Oct. 28, 2011.

The decision to move the rally came after Fretz met with various students, including students from The Samohi and ASB, to discuss possible revisions to the Homecoming schedule. She then met with administrators, and made the final decision to move the rally this morning.

The rally was initially scheduled as a lunch rally back in May, months before Fretz became Samo principal. When she arrived at Samo, Fretz said she was surprised to see that the rally had been scheduled as an optional lunchtime rally, as were the students, who were never notified of the decision. After discussing the issue with faculty members and students yesterday, Fretz said that she and other Samo administrators decided that the rally should be held during second period, which would limit the opportunities for students to act out. According to ASB, it will be similar to the fourth period rallies held in previous years, and will follow the outline the ASB pep rally committee has been working on since the beginning of the school year.

A more comprehensive article from The Samohi will follow.
