SMPD will increase presence around Samo after shooting

The Samo sophomore involved in a shooting yesterday afternoon is reportedly in stable condition after undergoing surgery last night, according to an email sent to Samo teachers by Principal Laurel Fretz.

The Santa Monica Police Department (SMPD) will have an increased presence in the area surrounding Samo today because of the shooting,  which occured in the 500 block of Pacific Street, according to a recorded phone call Principal Laurel Fretz sent to Samo teachers and parents at around 6 pm on Dec. 6.

According to SMPD Spokesman Sgt. Richard Lewis, the SMPD is currently searching for two suspects who witnesses describe as Hispanic males wearing dark clothing and driving a dark-colored SUV.

Fretz said she plans to contact Samo families with more details when they come.

Fretz also said that, because Samo students may have witnessed the shooting, additional counselors will be available this week to “provide support for any students that need it.”

Anyone with information is urged to contact the SMPD at 310.458.8495.

More information will follow.
