The Vikings pose after their victory against Culver City, securing their Ocean League Championship status.

The Samo girls’ soccer team ended their season on Feb. 14 after falling short in round two of California Interscholastic Federation (CIF) Division 3 against Flintridge Prep, with a final score of 1-4. The Samo girls’ soccer team played their first CIF game on Feb. 12 against Oak Hills High School. They won with a close score of 1-0, which moved them into the second round of the playoffs.

With the end of the ’25-’26 season, the team has made some impressive feats. Ending as Ocean League Champions, with a league record of 8-1 and, despite a rocky start to their season, ending with an overall record of 12-8-3.

Their first game of the season was against Marymount High School on Nov. 17. Despite ending in a  0-1 loss, the girls were able to climb their way back during the following games against Brentwood High School and Venice High School with a win of 1-0 and a tie of 1-1 respectively. Later in the season, the team experienced some major triumphs during league, with an impressive streak of five wins in a row. On Jan. 12, they played a particularly notable game against Palisades High School, winning with a score of 1-0. Varsity captain Becky Scholze (’26) reflected on this victory.

“We hadn’t played them in five years. They were our most challenging opponents because they have two D1 players on their team,” Scholze said. “We were able to shut them down and pull out with a 1-0 win in the last five minutes, which was huge for us.”

Next season, the team plans to navigate the loss of 10 seniors as well as further develop this year’s accomplishments. Head coach Jason Daglis looked back on this season and set expectations for the next.

“The season has been great. Succeeded expectations. I feel like the culture, our resilience and belief in ourselves has grown each week,” Daglis said. “[Our goal is] to continue to build off of this year, to hopefully build new talent, to win Ocean League and to continue to work towards winning a CIF championship.”
