Girls soccer is off to an exciting start
Last season, the Samo girls’ soccer team finished second in the Ocean League with a record of 8-2, while advancing to the first round of the CIF playoffs. During the first round of CIF, they faced a 1-2 loss against Notre Dame Academy, which concluded their season with an overall record of 11-10-1. The USL’s Division One was formed on Feb. 13. With this new league, a system new to the U.S is planned to be put in place. Scholes was brought in due to his background in the Premier League, where he worked running competitions as well as player development.

On Oct. 22, the team had their last game of the regular season against Malibu High School, which ended with a 12-7 win. They started off their season strong with their opening home game on Aug. 21, against Notre Dame High School, which ended in a 13-6 win.

This school year, the Independent Study Physical Education (ISPE) requirements for Samo have been modified, which has resulted in stricter criteria. ISPE is a program that offers rigorous student athletes the chance to acquire their PE credit outside of school practice, training and competitions.

While their overall record reflects challenges, two notable wins this season signal the girls’ golf team’s commitment to maximize their performance. On Oct. 7 and 9, the girls faced West Torrance, resulting in scores of 244-198 and 247-225. On Oct. 15, they sealed the win against El Segundo, coming to a score of 215-227 for their final game of the season.
