Girls’ softball dominates league

The Samo Girls Softball team started their season dominating

their league games. The softball team has taken the number one

spot in the Bay League, with a league record of 3-0, and an overall

record of 9-9.

On March 17, Samo kicked off their first league game with a 13-0

mercy win against Hawthorne. By the fourth inning, Samo led by

5-0. The game ended with Samo winning 13-0 in a mercy play. The

mercy rule ends the game earlier than the scheduled endpoint if

one team scores 10 runs after five innings.

Coach Jenny Forster explains one area the team has improved in

since the start of the season.

“I definitely think our hitting has improved since the start of the

season. We’ve been getting more hits in games, all the way through

our lineup... it’s really exciting and fun as a coach to see everyone

from top to bottom be capable of hitting,” Forster said.

On March 24, Samo played their first away league game against

Leuzinger, winning 8-4. On March 26, Samo met Leuzinger again

at home, and won by 20-3.

Forster explains how the team’s first win against Leuzinger has

brought them confidence for the upcoming portion of their sea-

son.

“One of our first league games against Leuzinger was definitely

our toughest league game. So after coming out with that win, we

felt pretty confident about being able to finish the season out un-

defeated,” Forster said.

On April 14, Samo achieved the season-high score against Bev-

erly Hills, winning in a 22-0 shutout. On April 21, Samo faced off

against Lawndale. Samo started off the game strongly by taking

a 4-0 lead. After making various mistakes, Lawndale was able to

catch up in the second inning and overtook Samo by 5 games to

4. Samo recovered from this rough patch by scoring 7 runs in the

fourth inning, and finished out the game with an overall score of

22-5 at the end of the fourth inning.

Mia Solano (’26) explains the team’s goal of reaching the CIF

playoffs and having a strong run.

“I think we’re going to do good as long as we all work together

and cheer each other on...as long as we have each other, I feel like

we could try our best,” Solano said.

As the softball team finishes out their league games, they look to

a successful run in CIF to conclude their season.
