Girls soccer is off to an exciting start
Last season, the Samo girls’ soccer team finished second in the Ocean League with a record of 8-2, while advancing to the first round of the CIF playoffs. During the first round of CIF, they faced a 1-2 loss against Notre Dame Academy, which concluded their season with an overall record of 11-10-1. The team coaches, Jason Daglis and Alyssa Pazzi, hope to build off of last season to strengthen their future performances, as well as the new five team captains that were named; LB Caldwell (’26), Audrey Howard (’26), Nyla Ryf (’26), Becky Scholze (’26) and Kayla Yee (’26)

Boys’ Soccer looks to build off of a successful ’24-’25 season, ending with a perfect 9-0 record in Ocean league and a 22-4-2 record overall, which qualified Samo for the open division of the CIF playoffs.

Football season comes to an end with a loss in the playoffs
Samo football earned its spot in the playoffs on Oct. 31 against Peninsula High School, where they won 28-14. The Vikings' first round of CIF playoffs took place at home against Pasadena High School, resulting in an exciting 42-16 win. Samo then had a 14-13 win against Brentwood High School, leading them to their semifinal game against Tahquitz High School. Samo came up short, ending their CIF run with a close loss of 35-41.
Boys’ basketball returns to the court
Coming into a new season, boys’ basketball looks to have a successful season. After putting in a lot of practice, the Samo boys’ basketball team is more determined than ever and looking forward to their ’25-’26 season.
Boys’ water polo season ends in a close loss at cif
The boys’ water polo team ended their season on Oct. 30 in round 1 of Division II California Interscholastic Federation (CIF) playoffs against Etiwanda High School. On Oct. 22, the team had their last game of the regular season against Malibu High School, which ended with a 12-7 win. They started off their season strong with their opening home game on Aug. 21, against Notre Dame High School, which ended in a 13-6 win.

Contrasting with the excitement surrounding these wins are the social crises that have recently plagued the team's home city, including the widespread detainment of immigrants and the Pacific Palisades fires. In times of crises, Dodger Stadium, along with its network of foundations, has been a common place for Los Angeles (LA) residents to feel a sense of belonging.
New ISPE requirements result in stricter criteria
This school year, the Independent Study Physical Education (ISPE) requirements for Samo have been modified, which has resulted in stricter criteria. ISPE is a program that offers rigorous student athletes the chance to acquire their PE credit outside of school practice, training and competitions.

While their overall record reflects challenges, two notable wins this season signal the girls’ golf team’s commitment to maximize their performance. On Oct. 7 and 9, the girls faced West Torrance, resulting in scores of 244-198 and 247-225. On Oct. 15, they sealed the win against El Segundo, coming to a score of 215-227 for their final game of the season.
Cross country has sights set on post-season glory
The Samo cross country team is now halfway through the season and has been putting in the hours to improve upon where they stood a few months ago. Both the boys’ and girls’ varsity teams are on an upward trajectory and are looking sharp for a chance at state.
